Lake Matheson is located near the Fox Glacier township on the West coast of the South Island. It is famous for its near-perfect reflected views of Aoraki/Mount Cook and Mount Tasman. Lake Matheson was formed about 14,000 years ago when the Fox Glacier retreated from its last major advance and left a depression which filled with Water.
